The Power of a Small Yes

Scripture:

“His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.” — John 2:5 (KJV)

Have you ever felt like what you have to offer is too small to matter? Maybe God’s been nudging you to start something, speak to someone, or step out in a new way — and your first thought is, “Who, me?”

Let’s take a look at a moment in Jesus’ early ministry: the wedding at Cana. It’s one of the most low-key miracles in the Bible, but also one of the most profound. There was a crisis — the wine had run out — and Jesus’ mother simply told the servants,

“Whatever He tells you to do, do it.”

Sounds simple, right? But what Jesus told them to do was kind of strange. Fill jars with water. Not wine, just water. No big fanfare. No impressive process. Just obedience. But that small, obedient “yes” turned ordinary water into something extraordinary.

Sometimes, our breakthrough is hidden in a small instruction.

That person God keeps putting on your heart to check in on? Do it.

That ministry you’ve been thinking about joining or starting? Say yes.

That prayer time you keep postponing? Show up.

God doesn’t ask for perfection — just obedience. And through our simple, faithful steps, He does the miraculous.

This week, remember:

God’s power often moves through small acts of obedience. Don’t wait for a “big” moment. Your small yes could be the door to someone’s answered prayer — or even your own.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What has God been nudging you to do lately?
  2. Are you waiting for ideal conditions instead of simply obeying?
  3. What “small yes” can you give God this week?
