October 2022: Our Season of Laughter. Genesis 21:1-7

With Jesus’ love, I warmly welcome you to the 10th Month, our Season of Divine Laughter.

Beloved, after Dominion, comes Laughter and no wonder Mama Sarah said in Genesis 21:6, “Sarah said, “God has made me laugh; all who hear [about our good news] will laugh with me”. This season, God will make you to laugh and everyone who hears about what God has done in your life will laugh with you in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Laughter is a pleasant physical reaction and emotion consisting usually of rhythmical, often audible contractions of the diaphragm and other parts of the respiratory system. It is a response to certain external or internal stimuli. Laughter can rise from such activities as being tickled, or from humorous stories or thoughts. It is commonly considered an auditory expression of a number of positive emotional states, such as joy, mirth, happiness, or relief.

Laughter is a part of human behaviour regulated by the brain, helping humans clarify their intentions in social interaction and providing an emotional context to conversations. Laughter is used as a signal for being part of a group—it signals acceptance and positive interactions with others. Laughter is sometimes seen as contagious, and the laughter of one person can provoke laughter from others as positive feedback.

I decree into the life of someone hearing me today, God will cause you to laugh and everyone around you will laugh with you in Jesus’ name. Amen.

What does the Bible say about Laughter?

  • Psalm 126:1-3 says, “When the Lord brought back the captives to Zion (Jerusalem), We were like those who dream [it seemed so unreal]. Then our mouth was filled with laughter, And our tongue with joyful shouting; Then they said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them.” The Lord has done great things for us; We are glad!
  • Proverbs 17:22 says, “A happy heart is good medicine and a joyful mind causes healing, But a broken spirit dries up the bones”.
  • Job 8:21 says, ““He will yet fill your mouth with laughter, And your lips with joyful shouting [if you are found blameless].
  • Genesis 21:6: “And Sarah declared, ‘God has brought me laughter. All who hear about this will laugh with me”.

How can I attract Divine Laughter?

Laughter may be caused by contrary emotional states such as embarrassment, surprise, or confusion such as nervous laughter or courtesy laugh. Age, gender, education, language, and culture are all indicators of whether a person will experience laughter in a given situation. Divine laughter breaks all protocol and brings real joy to our body, soul and spirit.

  1. Do not rebel against God. Isaiah 1:2-4 says, “Hear, O heavens, and listen, O earth; For the Lord has spoken: “I have reared and brought up sons, But they have rebelled against Me and have broken away. “The ox [instinctively] knows its owner, And the donkey its master’s feeding trough, But Israel does not know [Me as Lord], My people do not understand.” Ah, sinful nation, A people loaded down with wickedness [with sin, with injustice, with wrongdoing], Offspring of evildoers, Sons who behave corruptly! They have abandoned (rejected) the Lord,
They have despised the Holy One of Israel [provoking Him to anger], They have turned away from Him.
  2. Do not forget the Word of God. Proverbs 3:1-4 says, “My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you. Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. So you will find favour and good success in the sight of God and man”.
  3. Let God be your sufficiency. Philippians 4:13 says, “I can do all things [which He has called me to do] through Him who strengthens and empowers me [to fulfil His purpose—I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency; I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him who infuses me with inner strength and confident peace.]
  4. Share your Joy. Be ready to share your testimony, the great things God has done in your life. Don’t keep the joy to yourself. Share the “good medicine” of a joyful heart with others. You never can say, your testimony might be the spark someone has been waiting for. Proverbs 17:22 says, “A happy heart is good medicine and a joyful mind causes healing, But a broken spirit dries up the bones”. Proverbs 15:13: “A glad heart makes a happy face; a broken heart crushes the spirit.”
  5. Take time to laugh even when the occasion does not warrant it. Laughter they say is good medicine to the soul. Ecclesiastes 3:1, 4 says, “For everything, there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance”. Ecclesiastes 8:15: “So I recommend having fun because there is nothing better for people in this world than to eat, drink, and enjoy life. That way they will experience some happiness along with all the hard work God gives them under the sun.”
  6. Be in the driving seat, do not give room to everything thrown at you to determine your laughter. Psalm 42:5: “Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again”.
